Job description
Overview

There is a system of weekly MDT meetings for the ward which the post holder is expected to attend, in addition to meetings for CPA (6 monthly), formulation and risk management meetings. The length of stay currently on the ward is around five years.

Support and Collaboration

The consultant will be supported by a ward manager, clinical lead working on each ward. Additional support will come from occupational therapist, psychologist and social worker. The pharmacist will attend when required. A SAS/trust doctor (shared 50% time) will also be supporting the post holder, who can be the identified supervisor for the junior doctor. There will be an opportunity to become a trainer for trainees in the future.

Key Responsibilities
  • Attend weekly MDT meetings, CPA (6 monthly), formulation and risk management meetings.
  • Write statutory reports and attend First Tier Tribunals, Hospital Manager Hearings, S117 and MAPPA meetings as appropriate as Responsible Clinician.
  • Participate in referral management, receiving approximately 4 referrals per year from internal and external sources.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to support patient care.
  • Supervise junior doctors if assigned as the identified supervisor.
  • Act as a potential trainer for trainees.
Team Structure

Within the Secure Inpatient Services Directorate, the post holder will work alongside 14 consultant colleagues, 4 specialty grade doctors, and up to 3 core trainees. The locality Tutor for SAS doctors is Dr Sandeep Kumar. Psychiatrists are essential contributors to the majority of our mental health teams.
