Job summary

Red Snapper Recruitment is seeking a Forensic Submissions and Intelligence Officer in Preston to support the Forensic Submissions and Intelligence Team on a temporary, ad hoc basis until December 2026.

The role requires a background in forensic science or related fields, proficient analysis of information, and the ability to advise colleagues. You will handle casework, manage databases, and ensure legal compliance.

Qualifications

• GCSE in a scientific discipline (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Combined Science or Maths).
• Experience in forensic science, crime investigation or related field.
• Strong data analysis and ability to prepare reports.
• Experience with computerised systems and case management.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate forensic work requests and advise on forensic services.
• Monitor submissions to labs and agencies and liaise with partners.
• Analyse DNA database submissions and biometric samples.
• Review DNA match reports and speculative searches.
• Produce streamlined forensic reports and maintain case records.
• Research forensic evidence and identify links to crimes.
• Maintain and interrogate computerised case management systems.
• Attend case conferences and stay updated on forensic techniques.

Forensic Submissions and Intelligence Officer
Location: Preston
Rate: £13.84 per hour PAYE
Contract: Temporary, ad hoc
Duration: Until December 2026
Red Snapper Recruitment (RSR) are currently recruiting for a Forensic Submissions and Intelligence Officer to work on a temporary, ad hoc basis in Preston until December 2026.
This role would suit someone with a background in forensic science, crime investigation, intelligence or a related scientific discipline, who is confident analysing information, managing casework and providing advice to colleagues.

The Role
You will work within the Forensic Submissions and Intelligence Team, providing a customer-focused service by evaluating forensic work requests, advising officers on forensic services and producing forensic intelligence and research.
Key responsibilities will include:

• Monitoring and assessing forensic submissions made by operational officers to internal and external forensic laboratories and agencies.
• Providing advice on forensic science opportunities to maximise evidential opportunities.
• Liaising with internal departments, external forensic agencies and other relevant organisations.
• Monitoring submissions to the National DNA Database, including PACE, elimination and biometric samples.
• Analysing and quality-checking DNA match reports and speculative searches.
• Producing Streamlined Forensic Reports where appropriate.
• Evaluating statements and reports received from forensic laboratories and agencies.
• Researching forensic evidence, results and intelligence to identify similar or linked crimes and provide relevant information to investigating officers.
• Maintaining and interrogating computerised systems and databases to ensure accurate case management.
• Using force systems to manage forensic casework and ensure compliance and legality.
• Attending case conferences and forensic strategy meetings where required.
• Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of forensic science techniques and services.
• Working in line with relevant quality, health and safety, equality and data protection requirements.

Essential Experience
Candidates should have:

• A GCSE qualification or equivalent in a scientific discipline, such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Combined Science or Maths.
• Scientific or forensic experience relating to crime investigation.
• Experience of analysing data and preparing reports.
• Experience of monitoring, maintaining and interrogating computerised systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience of assessing information, identifying what is relevant and making appropriate decisions.
• Experience of working effectively as part of a team.
• The ability to work with minimum supervision and organise and prioritise your own workload.
• The ability to deal professionally with people in difficult situations.
• A self-motivated approach and willingness to develop within the role.

Desirable Experience
It would be beneficial to have experience of:

• Monitoring and managing budgets.
• Formulating forensic strategies.
• Building and maintaining internal and external partnerships.
• Mentoring or training others.
• Working with forensic submissions, forensic intelligence or the National DNA Database.
