Job description

Are you a registered mental health nurse looking for a role where you can help shape the future of forensic services?

We are recruiting for a Band 6 Charge Nurse on Kingfisher Ward based at Thames House, a 26-bedded low secure forensic unit that provides ongoing care for women in low security conditions. Many of our service users have had experience with the criminal justice system in the past.

As our Charge Nurse, you'll work closely with the Modern Matron, Ward Manager, and Clinical Nurse Lead, and be an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team comprising nursing, medical, psychology, and occupational therapy professionals. You'll have the opportunity to develop your own practice and support others in their professional growth.

Our service is known for excellence and providing evidence-based care. We offer an attachment model of care tailored to each individual’s needs, along with various therapies and experiences to support recovery. We work effectively with patients to help them identify and reach their goals while ensuring safety and supporting their transition to community life.

We provide opportunities for professional development and career progression, including clinical supervision, training, and involvement in shaping forensic mental health care. If you are passionate about making a difference and ready to step into a leadership role, we would love to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Work effectively with the multi-professional team in planning, delivering, and evaluating care.
  2. Ensure junior staff and learners are actively engaged in delivering patient care according to care plans.
  3. Observe, report, and record changes in patients’ physical and mental health, escalating as necessary.
  4. Maintain knowledge of legislation, policies, and guidance relevant to mental health care.
  5. Identify, provide, and supervise physical care to help service users with daily activities.
  6. Act as the named nurse for a specific group of patients, responsible for their assessment and care planning.
  7. Conduct comprehensive assessments using appropriate tools within the CPA framework, considering all aspects of the patient's needs and wishes.
