Job description

IBCA is responsible for delivering a long-awaited compensation scheme for victims of infected blood across the UK. It is essential to understand the scope of IBCA's challenge to make informed strategic decisions. The postholder will contribute to forecasting IBCA's activities, including estimating the number of claimants, payout amounts, and overall costs, acknowledging significant uncertainties in these areas.

Working at IBCA offers a unique opportunity to impact victims who deserve compensation. It is suitable for candidates who can bring critical thinking, leadership, and insight-driven approaches to make a real difference in people's lives.

Opportunities to transfer to the new Infected Blood Compensation Authority (IBCA): Currently, all IBCA roles are hosted by the Cabinet Office within the Civil Service. Once operational, most roles are expected to transfer to IBCA, a new Arms Length Body (ALB) separate from the Cabinet Office. Transferred roles will retain similar or better terms and conditions, including pension arrangements, with details provided upon offer. Roles starting after IBCA's establishment will be with IBCA directly on comparable terms. The mission of IBCA is expected to last approximately 5 to 7 years, after which support will be provided for employees to transition to other roles.

The IBCA seeks an outstanding, passionate Forecasting Data Scientist to enhance its business intelligence capabilities, improving transparency and decision-making for victims of infected blood.

This role offers the chance to shape IBCA's forecasting activities. As a Forecasting Data Scientist, you will work with a team to develop and refine forecasts and interactive tools to better understand future scenarios, collaborating closely with other team members and stakeholders to ensure outputs meet requirements.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Contributing to IBCA activity forecasts, including claimant predictions;
  2. Disseminating forecast results and communicating methodological changes;
  3. Engaging with stakeholders to understand and meet forecasting requirements;
  4. Providing technical leadership by developing robust forecasting models using appropriate technologies.
