Job description

Are you passionate about food, nutrition, and educating young minds? Academics is seeking a dedicated and dynamic teaching assistant for the food technology department in a thriving secondary school in Weston Super Mare, starting in September 2025.

The Food Technology Teaching Assistant will support food and nutrition lessons, helping to ensure that classes run smoothly, safely, and effectively

* £14.91 - £16.25 per hour, depending on experience

* Hourly pay rate includes holiday pay

* 30 hours per week, term time only

* 1 mile from Weston train station, accessible by bus or free parking on site

About the role

* Preparation of ingredients and equipment for lessons

* Supporting teaching staff and pupils during safe and engaging practical sessions

* Stock management and ordering supplies as needed

* Promote positive student behaviour

* Encouragement of pupils as they develop essential life skills

The right candidate

* Previous experience working with children or young people

* Maths and English GCSE grade A*-C / 9-4 or equivalent

* Food Hygiene certificate and first aid certificate - or willingness to undertake training

* Educated to a minimum of A Level or equivalent in design technology, or equivalent experience in the food industry
