Overview

Food Technology Teacher
Location: Kingsbury, North London
Contract: 4 Days per Week (Tuesday-Friday)
Start Date: September 2025

A SEN school in Kingsbury, North London is seeking an enthusiastic and adaptable Food Technology Teacher to deliver creative, practical and accessible lessons to students with ASD, MLD, and SLD.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-resourced school that places communication, independence and life skills at the heart of its curriculum.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging Food Technology lessons tailored to pupils with a wide range of abilities and learning profiles, ensuring activities are accessible, meaningful, and linked to life skills.
  • Adapt teaching to support pupils with ASD, MLD and SLD, using visual supports, structured routines, and differentiated resources to enhance understanding and engagement.
  • Teach both practical cooking skills and an understanding of food safety, nutrition, and healthy living.
  • Collaborate closely with LSAs and therapists to ensure every student is supported to achieve their personal learning goals.
  • Promote independence by encouraging students to develop communication, social interaction, and functional life skills through food technology.
  • Support pupils with behaviour regulation, following EHCPs where needed, and creating a calm, structured environment.
  • Oversee health, hygiene and safety standards in the food technology room, ensuring compliance with safeguarding and risk assessment protocols.
  • Provide ongoing assessment and feedback, tracking progress against individual learning plans (EHCP outcomes).
Qualifications
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or QTLS) - specialist Food Technology background desirable, but teachers from other practical subject areas (DT, vocational skills, life skills) will also be considered.
  • Experience working with students with SEND, ideally including ASD, MLD, or SLD.
  • A strong understanding of differentiated teaching strategies and ability to adapt the curriculum to diverse needs.
  • Practical knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and kitchen management.
  • Creativity, patience, and flexibility, with a passion for supporting students to achieve independence.
