What will you be doing?

Joining us as a Food Safety & Trading Standards Advisor, you will play a key role in protecting customers, members, and colleagues by ensuring Food Safety and Trading Standards compliance across Retail Food operations.

You will provide professional advice, drive continuous improvement, and ensure legal and regulatory standards are understood and applied in practice.

You’ll collaborate with teams across our trading estate and with internal and external stakeholders, such as regulatory partners, professional advisors, and service providers.

This role supports safe, legal, and responsible trading through effective policy and risk management.

You will offer technical, legal, and compliance advice on storing, moving, displaying, and selling our food products and age-restricted items across stores, cafes, and home delivery services.

You will also advise and assist the business in safely implementing new concepts that differentiate us in the market.

A company car is provided, and travel to retail premises, including new stores and cafes, is required. A hybrid work model with home and office working is available.

How will I know if I am right for this role?

Ideally, you have experience in a compliance role within a large, multi-site organization.

You are motivated, enthusiastic, and eager to make a difference in a dynamic society that embraces new ideas and technology.

You are skilled in interpreting legal and regulatory requirements related to Food Safety and Trading Standards and can influence stakeholders, including delivering training when necessary.

Understanding our brand and Co-operative principles, you focus on operating legally and responsibly while being pragmatic to meet business needs. You are confident in challenging non-compliance issues.

You are experienced in investigations and possess a strategic yet practical approach to problem-solving.

A full UK driving license and willingness to travel, including potential overnight stays, are essential.

Qualifications

  • GCSE grades A-C in English and Maths.
  • A degree in Environmental Health, Food Technology, or related field
  • Level 3 or above in Food Safety
  • Level 2 in HACCP
  • Qualification in alcohol licensing (e.g., BIIAB Level 2 Award for Personal License Holders)
