Food Safety, Quality & Animal Welfare Placement - Lancashire

We have several opportunities across our UK sites for student placements in the Food Safety, Quality, and Animal Welfare (FSQAW) department within Dunbia. These placements will involve working within a supportive team in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same.

You will gain experience in the red meat food supply chain through a specially developed work placement program, ensuring you acquire relevant skills and knowledge. Your tasks will include understanding legislative and regulatory standards, food safety challenges and risks, sampling and testing, auditing and compliance, and project work. You will also learn how food safety and quality integrate into the entire supply chain and their impact on the food we consume.

You will be actively involved from the start, with ample learning opportunities supported by a structured workbook and placement package.

To succeed, gaining a comprehensive understanding of operations is essential. Knowledge in the following areas is desirable depending on site functions:

  • Procurement
  • Slaughter
  • Boning/Production
  • Customer Specifications
  • Stock Rotation (Maturation)
  • Retail Intake
  • Retail Processing and Packing
What we are looking for
  • Current studies in Food Science, Agricultural Science, or a related degree
  • An interest in the red meat processing industry and a desire to gain firsthand experience
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Understanding of team dynamics and the ability to work effectively as part of a team with a professional and enthusiastic attitude
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • The candidate must have the right to work in the UK by the start of employment
