Job Description

A client within the Public Sector based in Merseyside is currently recruiting for a Food Safety Consultant to join their Public Protection team as soon as possible. The client is offering a full-time, temporary position on an ongoing basis with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority within a commercial environmental health environment.

The Role

The key purpose of the role is the enforcement of commercial businesses to ensure compliance with relevant food hygiene, health and safety, and public health legislation to protect the general public.

Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Carry out food hygiene and health & safety inspections in commercial premises (including unrated and Category C & D businesses)
  • Investigate food poisoning cases, infectious disease outbreaks, and serious accidents, including fatalities
  • Take enforcement actions such as issuing prohibition notices, improvement notices, and preparing prosecution case files
  • Respond to service requests and complaints related to commercial waste, drainage, and public health nuisances
  • Liaise with external bodies such as the HSE, UKHSA, FSA, Coroners, and Police during complex investigations

The Candidate

To be considered for this role, you will require:

  • An accredited Environmental Health degree (BSc or MSc)
  • Registration as an Environmental Health Practitioner with the EHRB or on the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health’s Professional Register

The following skills would be beneficial for the role:

  • Strong knowledge of food safety, health and safety, and public health legislation
  • Experience in carrying out statutory inspections and enforcement actions within a local authority
  • Ability to manage complex investigations and produce high-quality reports and evidence

The client is looking to move quickly with this role and is offering £50 per hour Umbrella LTD Inside IR35 (approx. £40 per hour PAYE).
