Job description

The NPD Research Scientist II will be a leader in new product innovation, responsible for developing, executing, and managing projects within the organization. The individual will independently research, design experiments, gather data, develop preliminary findings, and prepare reports to drive new or improved products, cost savings, and technologies. They will identify project barriers and recommend solutions, potentially leading and directing other scientists to formulate new products aligned with company objectives.

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and develop new products from bench top to commercialization, ensuring adherence to cost and label claims; evaluate ingredients, verify nutritional profiles, and conduct stability assessments.
  • Support pilot plant process development by staying informed of equipment and techniques; design experiments; prepare products; evaluate results; and recommend next steps.
  • Develop and implement projects while maintaining a safe laboratory environment.
  • Conduct production trials with cross-functional teams to validate formulations.
  • Document processes in electronic notebooks, prepare technical reports, and develop product specifications for approval.
  • Provide insights to sales and customers on new products and technologies to support product portfolio and strategy.
  • Collaborate with teams through meetings, providing technical guidance and solutions.
  • Lead quality assurance program development in partnership with QA.
  • Communicate technical concepts effectively to diverse audiences, tailoring messages as needed.
  • Serve as a technical resource within the company.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP/GLP regulations and conduct experiments safely.

WORK EXPERIENCES

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in formulation and product development within the food industry.
  • Hands-on experience with analytical and physical testing methodologies (e.g., moisture, color, rheology, spectroscopy).
  • Project management experience, capable of managing multiple streams.
  • Familiarity with Genesis or similar software preferred; experience with Compusense Sensory Software and SAP PLM is a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools and ability to communicate project updates effectively.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • BSc. or MSc. in Food Science or related field.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • No direct supervision, but may mentor junior staff and interns.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Less than 10% travel, based on business needs.
