This zero‑hour role offers weekend and school holiday shifts with potential training and development. You’ll work as part of a small team, with back-of-house duties and a focus on safe food handling and customer care.

Summary The National Trust is renowned for its food and hospitality. We run 185 cafes, tea-rooms and restaurants all over England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and we'd love you to join us. We’re looking for a Food and Beverage Team Member. In this role, you’d be making a real difference to the work of the National Trust, as well as helping to give people a memorable day out.

The location is in a rural area, so please think about how you’d get here for work, before applying for the job.

Contract type This is a zero-hour contract, meaning we can’t guarantee a set number of hours each week. While we aim to provide a consistent work pattern, flexibility is needed as schedules may change based on business needs. We’ll try to give as much notice as possible. The role includes weekdays, weekends and Bank Holidays but does not require evening or split shifts.

Contract duration Fixed term contract until 31-Jul-2027. There are two contracts available

Hours/Working pattern The tearoom is open daily all year round so shifts can be any days between the hours of 9am and 4:30pm. Hours will mostly be at weekends and during school holidays but weekday working will be needed to cover staff holiday/sickness.

Salary £12.75 per hour

What you'll be doing

As a Team Member, your main focus will be front of house, dealing directly with people. You’ll welcome and look after everyone who comes to the café. With your love of working with people and your ‘can-do’, you’ll be making sure everyone has an enjoyable time. This is a lively business that’s constantly on the go, so teamwork and adaptability are crucial. We're a small team so back of house and kitchen duties will also be required.

You’ll be keen to understand what people want, to help them and to make recommendations. You’ll always keep the standards of food and drink preparation and presentation high. Using your excellent eye for detail, you’ll make sure all displays and signs are accurate and looking good. At times, you may need to help the kitchen team with preparing food.

We’ll give you an induction that fits the job, and training in allergens and food safety, plus any mentoring needed to help you in your role. You can sign up for further professional training and development if you wish.
