Job description

Do you understand the importance of fresh and local produce? Do you get a buzz from problem solving under pressure? Are you an inspiring leader? If you've answered yes to these questions, and are a Food & Beverage professional who is looking for a new challenge, then this is the role for you!

We are currently seeking a new full time, permanent, Food & Beverage Assistant Manager to join our busy team here at Packwood House. A good work / life balance is important to us, and although there is a requirement to work weekends and Bank Holidays in this role, we don't do late evenings, and we don't work on Christmas Day.

What it's like to work here

This captivating 16th Century Tudor manor house is renowned for its fine collection of textiles and elegant gardens. The team is focussed on conservation projects as well as providing an exceptional family friendly visitors experience.

We have tried to bring this spirit of creativity and invention to the design of the café, as well as Mr Ash’s good taste and eye for detail. The lighting has been inspired by the chandeliers in the Great Hall, a new range of contemporary delft tiles echoing those found in Baron Ash’s bathroom has been created in collaboration with Fired Earth, and the walls feature images inspired by the gardens and the visitors books signed by Mr Ash’s guests in the 1930s and 1940s.

The 80 seater Café is modern in design with a menu inspired by Packwood’s Kitchen Garden, which is lovingly tended by Kitchen Garden staff and team of volunteers. The fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers grown in the Kitchen Garden will feature on the menu, which includes delicious cakes, warming ‘one pots’, salads, sandwiches, baked potatoes and hot and cold drinks. There’s also a special menu for little ones.

At the National Trust, we really understand the importance of locally and responsibly sourced ingredients. We have recently been awarded the Bronze-level Food for Life recognising this. As an organisation, we’re continually looking for ways to improve our sourcing standards, supply chain and food offer.

What you'll be doing

We’re looking for a creative, hard-working and committed individual who has a wealth of experience in the Food and Beverage industry. We have an amazing team here at Packwood House working across our busy Food & Beverage outlet, and you’ll be helping to lead, inspire, train and support them. We want to ensure that our customers’ expectations are met and exceeded, so you’ll be ensuring that the team are delivering a fantastic service to everyone, every time. As we get very busy, especially in the warmer months, there will be a need for you to sometimes roll up your sleeves and support the team in serving customers.

Co-ordination and organisation are key, and these will be important elements in your role. You’ll be able to prioritise tasks, and work to conflicting deadlines, whilst also ensuring our resources are effectively used. You’ll also be creating rotas and ordering stock to ensure the on-going smooth running of the food and beverage operation here at Packwood House.

With your fantastic people skills, you’ll also build strong, professional relationships with our kitchen team, and you’ll have a real understanding of their work. You’ll also work alongside other managers across the property, and will assist with the overall running of our operation. We strive to grow the business and we celebrate innovative thinking so you’ll have ample opportunity to seek ways in which we can further develop our offering. Every penny of our profits goes back into the conservation of Packwood House, and our Food and Beverage team plays a key part in making this happen.

You’ll also be asked to deputise for the Food & Beverage Manager in their absence – further details will be discussed at interview.
