We’re recruiting a Food and Beverage Manager for our café at the Visitor Centre on the beautiful Newport Wetlands National Nature Reserve. Newport Wetlands is a special area for wildlife, lying between the Severn estuary and the river Usk. It is one of the most important areas of wetland habitat in Wales, providing a haven for wildlife on the edge of the city.

The Role:

As Food and Beverage Manager you will utilise your management or supervisory experience and be responsible for leading day-to-day management of the café. Working with team members, you will be providing a warm, welcoming atmosphere for our visitors to enjoy nature-friendly food and drink in an incredible setting. You will lead on performance of the café against targets, coach and inspire your team to generate income to support our important conservation work.

Typical opening hours are between 10 am and 4 pm. The role will offer a flexible shift pattern of 5 days over 7 on a 9 to 5 basis, with regular weekend and bank holiday working.

Key Skills Areas:

  1. Leading the Food and Beverage team in day-to-day operations.
  2. Has commercial awareness, knowledge of budgets, controlling costs and maximising income.
  3. Experience of working with KPIs and targets to deliver organisational goals.
  4. Builds and maintains strong working relationships, has good people management skills including setting objectives and providing feedback.
  5. Provides a warm welcome for our visitors, is helpful and friendly with a positive attitude.
  6. Maintains food hygiene and health and safety standards in the work environment.
  7. Works to encourage teams, with support from colleagues across the organisation.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

  1. A positive outlook, can-do attitude and willing to develop new skills.
  2. A passion for good food and drink.
  3. Effective time management and people management.
  4. Supervisory or management experience in a coffee shop environment.

Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:

  1. Level 3 Food Safety.
  2. Understanding of working EPOS systems.
  3. GCSE Maths and English, or equivalent.
