Job summary

Wigan Council invites applications for a Flood Risk Technician to deliver high quality information, advice and support on flooding and water matters. You will join a small, collaborative team led by the Flood Risk Engineer and contribute to a range of water management activities with partner organisations.

The role suits someone with an HNC in Civil Engineering or Environmental Sciences, who is comfortable working outdoors in all weather and holds a valid driving licence for site visits.

Qualifications

  • HNC in Civil Engineering, Environmental Sciences or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of Flood and Water Management Act.

Responsibilities

  • Join Wigan Council’s Flood Risk Team to provide residents with information, advice and support on flooding.
  • Contribute to water management activities and work with partner organisations.
  • Report to the Flood Risk Engineer.

Your role:

This role presents an excellent opportunity to join Wigan Council’s Flood Risk Team, providing residents with high quality information, advice, and support on flooding and water related matters.

With the increasing frequency of severe storm events and the growing impacts of climate change, the role offers the chance to engage with innovative technologies and forward thinking approaches to address emerging challenges.

You will become part of a small, collaborative team, reporting to the Flood Risk Engineer.

As the Flood Risk Technician, you will have the opportunity to contribute to a range of water management activities and work closely with partner organisations involved in flood risk management.

About you:

The ideal candidate will hold a HNC in Civil Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or an equivalent discipline, and will knowledge of the relevant legislation, regulations, and technical requirements associated with the Flood and Water Management Act.

You must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions and in areas that may be challenging to access. A current, valid driving licence and access to a vehicle for site visits are essential.
