Overview

Flood Defence Team Member, Environment Agency. Permanent, full-time role in Seaford. Salary £25,308 rising to £27,293 for Team Member Level 2C after 2 years subject to satisfactory performance. Grade: Team Member Level 2A.

Responsibilities
  • Operate, maintain and respond to flood and coastal risk management assets to safeguard communities.
  • Tackle incidents and emergencies related to flooding and other environmental challenges as part of the 24/7 standby roster.
  • Contribute to flood defence initiatives, including installing flood barriers, building sandbag walls, deploying high-volume pumps and providing assistance to affected communities.
  • Use a wide range of tools and equipment (chainsaws, strimmers/brush cutters, heavy plant machinery, boats, etc.).
  • Perform structural maintenance, vegetation management, small construction projects, soft engineering methods, beach maintenance, and culvert/grille clearance.
  • Operate, maintain and respond to assets ranging from large flood relief channels and flood storage reservoirs to local flood defences, in urban and rural environments.
  • Work on a day-to-day basis with asset operation, maintenance (e.g., vegetation control, small construction tasks) and incident response. Learn and use tools and equipment from hand tools to ride-on plant and tractors.
  • Record and communicate work tasks using IT devices.

  • Ability to travel to your base depot within 60 minutes to respond to incidents and meet urgent business needs.
  • A passion for the outdoors and a genuine commitment to protecting the environment.
  • Literacy and numeracy skills with willingness to learn in-house systems and use IT devices.
  • Some understanding of site health and safety requirements; full training will be provided.
Where you will work

You will travel to your depot to check in daily and then be dispersed in smaller teams to carry out field work tasks within your geographical area.
