Role Overview

You will look after the planning and management of the operational support functions needed for the RAF’s flying tasks. In your role you will:

  1. Create flight plans
  2. Supervise teams of Flight Operations Assistants

You will need to have previous military experience within Flight Operations obtaining the rank of SNCO.

Additional Requirements

  • Be aged 18-54. Applicants must apply no later than age 54 and 9 months to attest before their 55th birthday.
  • Be a UK citizen or have dual UK/other nationality.
  • Commit to 27 days per year.
  • Pass a fitness and health assessment.

Reserve Role Locations

Reserve roles are located at specific RAF bases, including 502 Sqn, JHFS Aldergrove, Co Antrim; 600 Sqn, RAF Northolt, Middlesex; 602 Sqn, Glasgow, Scotland; 611 Sqn, RAF Woodvale, Merseyside. Proximity to these bases is important as you will not be resident there except during operations or exercises.

You will receive basic and specialist training, with ongoing development opportunities including external courses and personal study programs. Your skills will be valuable both within and outside the RAF.

Commitment and Location

You will need to commit to a minimum of 27 days per year for at least 12 years. This includes a 15-day annual training block and 12 days for exercises or additional training. Deployment to UK or overseas bases for up to 6 months is possible after the first year.

Application Process

  1. Attend a squadron information day
  2. Participate in a selection interview
  3. Undergo a health assessment
  4. Complete a fitness test
  5. Receive acceptance and attest into the RAF Reserves

Entry Requirements

  • Aged 18-54, with applications before 54 years and 9 months.
  • Previous military experience within Flight Operations at SNCO rank.
  • UK, Republic of Ireland, or Commonwealth citizenship with indefinite leave to remain.
  • Residency of at least 3-5 years in the UK prior to application depending on nationality.
  • Physical fitness to pass the fitness tests and training.
