Job summary

Randstad UK is seeking a Primary Teaching Assistant (General & SEN Support) to join schools in West Sussex or Surrey. You will support general classroom activities and provide tailored 1:1 and small-group interventions for pupils with additional learning needs.

This role offers a flexible mix of full-time and part-time schedules, weekly pay, and a dedicated local consultant to guide your career. A DBS Update Service check is essential; Level 2/3 TA qualifications are preferred.

Qualifications

• Proven experience supporting primary school-aged children in an educational, early years, or youth environment.
• Good foundational understanding of the primary curriculum alongside awareness of additional learning needs.
• Patient, approachable, and proactive communication style with young learners and teaching teams.
• Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or readiness to complete one).
• Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent degree).
• Prior experience delivering early phonics, reading, or math interventions (nice-to-have).

Responsibilities

• Deliver targeted 1:1 support for individual pupils with additional needs to access the primary curriculum.
• Guide small-group interventions in literacy, numeracy, and social-skills to boost attainment.
• Foster an inclusive, warm, structured classroom environment.
• Assist general classroom management and prepare learning materials.
• Adapt educational resources to match varying learning styles under teacher guidance.
• Support emotional and behavioral needs to maintain productive learning spaces.
• Promote student independence by scaffolding daily tasks.
• Monitor and track pupil progress and share feedback with teachers and SENCOs.
