Job summary

18 Week Support is recruiting Consultant Ophthalmologists to add clinical capacity for NHS Trusts across the UK on a two-year fixed-term basis. The role focuses on outpatient clinics where you assess referred patients, perform examinations, plan treatments and arrange follow-up care.

Sessions are flexible to fit Trust demand and GMC registration. This role suits consultants who want to align work with other commitments and who have right to work in the UK. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Qualifications

• Primary medical qualification is required.
• CCT or equivalent in ophthalmology must be held.
• Relevant specialist ophthalmology training is expected.

Responsibilities

• Provide consultant-level ophthalmology care within NHS Trust settings.
• Run outpatient ophthalmology clinics and assess patients referred for specialist care.
• Carry out clinical examinations, investigations and diagnostic assessments.
• Develop and document management and treatment plans.
• Provide follow-up and ongoing clinical management where needed.
• Identify patients needing further investigation, treatment or referral.
• Work with ophthalmologists, optometrists, nurses, healthcare professionals and administrative teams.
• Keep accurate, timely clinical records to NHS and professional standards.
• Communicate with patients and colleagues to inform them about care.
• Uphold patient safety, clinical governance and confidentiality.
• Support Trusts in managing ophthalmology waiting lists and increasing clinical capacity.
• Deliver services in line with agreed clinical protocols and Trust requirements.

Education
