Job summary

Kirklees Metropolitan Council is seeking a highly motivated Transport Workshops Manager to lead the operation of its vehicle maintenance workshops across multiple sites. You will ensure safety, compliance and operational effectiveness in line with DVSA requirements and health and safety laws.

The role reports to the Fleet and Transport Manager and involves leading Workshop Team Leaders and technicians, managing budgets and participating in procurement exercises.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of transport legislation including DVSA requirements, MOT testing, and health & safety regulations.
• Proven ability to lead, manage and develop teams with continuous improvement.
• Experience in procurement, contract management and budget control within an operational workshop setting.
• Excellent organisational, communication and report-writing skills.
• A recognised Level 3 qualification in vehicle maintenance (or equivalent).
• A CPC in Road Haulage (National or International) – essential for the role.

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance across multiple sites.
• Ensure compliance with DVSA, Operator’s Licence undertakings and transport legislation.
• Oversee Workshop Team Leaders, Vehicle and Plant Technicians and support staff.
• Manage budgets, contracts and performance; monitor compliance systems.
• Contribute to procurement exercises for vehicle and services.
