Job summary

Sandwell Council’s Fleet Division is seeking a Vehicle Technician to join the central depot in Cradley Heath. This full-time, permanent role maintains a diverse fleet supporting housing repairs, highways, waste collections and street cleansing.

You will service, inspect, diagnose and repair vehicles, ensure DVSA compliance, mentor apprentices and work a 37-hour week with an alternating shift pattern.

Qualifications

• Level 3 NVQ Automotive Maintenance and Repair is required.
• LGV Class 2 Licence; B licence accepted with training to C within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Carry out servicing, maintenance, and repairs on varied vehicles and plant.
• Prepare vehicles for MOT testing in line with DVSA standards.
• Diagnose faults across engine, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Undertake welding, fabrication, and bodywork repairs as needed.
• Attend roadside breakdowns and provide recovery support.
• Mentor apprentices and support junior team members.
