Job summary

Newport City Council is seeking a reliable Plant Fitter CTL to support its Fleet Maintenance team in Newport. The successful candidate will inspect, maintain, service and repair plant, machinery and equipment to keep assets safe, operational and compliant with health and safety requirements.

This is a 37-hour-per-week, on-site role paid at £12.71 per hour under PAYE, with responsibilities spanning routine maintenance, fault identification and safe workshop practices while working within the

Qualifications

• Experience in plant fitting, mechanical maintenance or equipment repairs.
• Knowledge of mechanical systems, tools and maintenance procedures.
• Ability to identify faults and assist with troubleshooting.
• Good practical skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to follow instructions and work safely in a workshop.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Awareness of health and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine maintenance, servicing and basic repairs on plant, machinery and associated equipment.
• Inspect equipment to identify faults, defects and potential mechanical issues.
• Assist with diagnosing mechanical and operational problems.
• Undertake preventative maintenance to minimise equipment breakdowns and downtime.
• Support the safe operation, storage and maintenance of tools and workshop equipment.
• Report faults, defects and repair requirements to the relevant supervisor.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete relevant paperwork.
• Follow health and safety procedures, risk assessments and safe working practices.
• Work collaboratively with the Fleet Maintenance team to ensure equipment is maintained efficiently.
