Job description

An exciting position has arisen to join the Yorkshire Ambulance Service as a Fleet Logistics Assistant/Driver. This is a full-time, permanent role based on a 4 on 4 off shift within the Fleet Department.

As a Fleet Logistics Assistant, you will work as part of the Fleet, Estates and Facilities Team, supporting the transportation, movement, and care of operational and non-operational vehicles for maintenance, repair, and staffing requirements.

This role is primarily driving, requiring a C1 driving licence. Additionally, the successful candidate must be capable of carrying out logistics tasks, including light mechanical repairs (such as replacing bulbs and wipers, checking tyre pressures, jump-starting vehicles) and moderate lifting tasks related to delivering oils and lubricants to ambulance stations.

This support role is vital for the department and Trust, involving driving various vehicles across the county for local and county-wide tasks. Responsibilities include ensuring vehicles are fuelled, completing daily vehicle checks, maintaining cleanliness of workshop facilities, and supporting vehicle maintenance and audits.

The post involves working with minimal supervision, across a large geographical area, using initiative to solve problems. The role also includes maintaining a safe working environment and supporting workshop technical staff as needed.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service covers nearly 6,000 square miles, serving over five million people, with more than 7,100 staff and 1,300 volunteers providing 24/7 emergency and healthcare services.

Benefits include flexible working, annual leave increasing with service, a contributory pension, NHS discounts, salary sacrifice schemes, employee support services, and opportunities for career development.

The role includes assisting with vehicle maintenance, fitting parts, topping up oils, jump-starting, towing, and supporting vehicle commissioning and audits, with appropriate training provided.

Applicants should be prepared to assist workshop staff with manual tasks, report vehicle damage immediately, and comply with all relevant SOPs and standards.
