Overview

Applications are welcomed for a fixed term Consultant post in Neurology. This is a full time (10 PA) Consultant Neurologist appointment for the United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. This is a shared post between ULTH and Nottingham University Hospital, based primarily at Grantham & District Hospital. The post will provide clinics at Grantham, NUH and Lincoln Hospital and ward referrals respectively.

Main duties

The Neurology service is managed within the Trust-wide Specialty Medicine Business Unit within the Medicine Division. The Business Unit is headed by a Clinical Director, supported by a General Manager and Clinical Services Manager. The funded Consultant establishment is 4.00 wte Consultants employed by United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT), supported by a further 0.6 wte Consultants that visit from Sheffield. The service is managed from Lincoln on a hub and spoke basis, providing outpatient and ward referral service to the three main hospital sites, Lincoln, Boston & Grantham. The Department has a Consultant Nurse Specialist for Multiple Sclerosis and Epilepsy specialist Nurses providing follow up care and support for MS and Epilepsy patients.

Qualifications and Certification

Essential

  • Current valid full GMC registration
  • MRCP or Equivalent

Desirable

  • An appropriate higher degree e.g. an MD, PhD or equivalent
  • Higher Research qualification
  • Specialist Registration in Neurology
  • CCT in Neurology or Equivalent (or be within 6/12 of achieving)

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of wide experience and a high level of competence in Neurology

Desirable

  • Expertise in Botox Therapy
  • Special interest in movement disorders

Management

Essential

  • Evidence of understanding of the role of clinical management
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively
  • Ability to plan strategically and to exercise sound judgment when faced with conflicting pressures
  • Ability to motivate and develop the multi-disciplinary team, balancing departmental and personal objectives
