Job summary

Gap Group is seeking a hands-on Plant Mechanic in the Hull area to service and repair a wide range of plant and tool equipment, both in the depot and on customer sites. You will diagnose faults, maintain records, and ensure safety standards are met, supporting a high-performing depot team and contributing to equipment availability for customers.

The role welcomes candidates with proven plant/mechanic experience and a proactive, problem-solving mindset.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a plant mechanic/fitter or time-served background welcomed.
  • Experience in a mechanical role; training provided for non-plant hire backgrounds.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy under pressure.
  • Customer-focused approach and reliable team player.
  • Full driving licence preferred but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Service and maintain a wide range of plant and tool equipment in GAP fleet.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out repairs to minimise downtime.
  • Update service records and ensure safety standards are met.
  • Occasionally service at customer sites and support depot operations.

Ready to get hands-on with industry-leading equipment and make a real impact?, As a Plant Mechanic, you'll play a key role in keeping our fleet of diggers, dumpers, and hand tools hire-ready. You'll carry out servicing, maintenance, and repairs-both in the depot and occasionally on customer sites-ensuring our equipment is safe, reliable, and ready to go when our customers need it. This is a hands-on, high-impact role offering real career progression in a company that invests in its people. What You'll Be Doing

  • Servicing and maintaining a wide range of plant and tool equipment within the GAP fleet
  • Diagnosing faults and completing repairs efficiently to minimise downtime
  • Accurately updating service records and ensuring compliance with safety standards
  • Occasionally attending customer sites to carry out repairs and maintenance
  • Supporting the depot team to ensure equipment availability and customer satisfaction
    We're looking for a skilled and motivated Plant Mechanic to join our high-performing Plant & Tool division.   • Proven experience as a plant mechanic/fitter, with a relevant qualification or time-served background in an industry with transferable skills is welcomed
  • Proven experience working in a mechanical role - candidates out with the plant hire industry are welcomed as full training will be provided!
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to work effectively under pressure
  • A customer-focused approach workload and committed team player
  • A full, valid driving licence is preferred but not essential
