Job summary

First Military Recruitment is seeking a Fitter in Abingdon to support mechanical engineering services and assist in project delivery. You will work with multiple teams, follow drawings, and maintain high quality standards under a safe system of work.

Ideal candidates have an apprenticeship or equivalent, can read assemblies, and communicate effectively. Security clearance (BPSS) may be required; training opportunities are available within a supportive military-friendly environment.

Qualifications

  • Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings.
  • Good knowledge of QA activities and documentation.
  • Experience with Written Safe System of Work / Method Statements.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Competent with Word and Excel. BPSS security clearance is required.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in maintenance, improvement and modification of components as directed by mechanical technicians.
  • Assemble and prepare components following documentation and drawings.
  • Follow process documentation and perform technical engineering and assembly tasks with high accuracy.
  • Undertake a wide range of hands-on general duties with minimal supervision.
  • Liaise with other teams to progress tasks timely.
  • Provide information to document processes/procedures for maintenance, installation and testing of equipment.
  • Adhere to safety and quality standards while handling fragile/complex equipment.
  • Promote company values of equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Perform any other reasonable tasks requested by the manager.

Overview:

First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Fitter on behalf of one of our clients.

Supports various teams & facilities in the provision of mechanical Engineering services and assisting in the delivery of mechanical engineering projects.

Our client encourages applications from ex-military personnel however all candidates will be given due consideration.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the maintenance, improvement and modification of components as directed by mechanical technicians.
  • Responsible for the assembly and preparation of components following appropriate documentation and drawings.
  • Working to a high standard of accuracy, follow process documentation and carry out technical engineering and assembly tasks.
  • Undertake a wide range of hands on general purpose duties with minimal supervision.
  • To liaise with members of other teams to progress tasks in a timely manner.
  • Provide information and support enabling correct documenting of processes/procedures for the maintenance, installation and testing of equipment.
  • General workers are expected to know some tasks may be additionally complicated by the fragile and complex nature of equipment and apply appropriate care and techniques to complete the work.
  • Actively promote company values, championing a culture of equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Work in accordance with company policy and undertake any other reasonable tasks or duties requested by your manager.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • A recognised engineering apprenticeship or equivalent with a relevant qualification in engineering.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret assembly drawings.
  • Good working knowledge of quality assurance activities and documentation.
  • Experience of working under a Written Safe System of Work / Method Statements.
  • Ability to independently complete tasks, as well as co-operate and work as part of a team.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Competent computer skills including Microsoft Office, in particular Word and Excel.
  • BPSS Security Clearance.
Desirable:
  • Knowledge of good vacuum practice and vacuum systems and technology.
  • Knowledge of good practices for cooling systems.
