The role

As a First Line Manager – Reactor Cleaner, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Are you an experienced First Line Manager looking for your next challenge? Join Babcock Devonport in Plymouth and take the lead in complex engineering projects, driving operational success and team development in a dynamic environment.


Day-to-day, you’ll lead and manage a team of multi-skilled workers, specifically overseeing Production Support Operatives and Reactor Cleaners to ensure operational efficiency and high standards of work.

  • Promote and oversee control of work processes.
  • Ensure workplace safety and compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Manage team development, focusing on time, performance, behaviours, and quality.
  • Provide technical guidance in your area of expertise.
  • Take ownership of project objectives, delivering on schedule and to quality standards per company procedures.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Primarily, it involves 4-week shift cycles consisting of either day/back shift or day/night shift.

Essential experience of the First Line Manager – Reactor Cleaner

  • Strong understanding of Health and Safety processes in production activities.
  • Experience supervising a team or willingness to learn.
  • Knowledge of repair, replacement, overhaul, and maintenance processes.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal skills, and ability to motivate a team.
  • Good understanding of nuclear procedures.

Qualifications for the First Line Manager – Reactor Cleaner

  • ONC, NVQ Level 3
  • ILM Level 3
  • IOSH

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintainBaseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS)security clearance for this role.
