About The Role
The Medical Department at Forest Green Rovers is a joint operation with the First Team and academy squads, operating in close collaboration. You may be asked on occasions to work across departments at short notice for the benefit of the club.
The role will involve the following:
- To contribute to the success and achievement of the football club.
- To aim for excellence within the medical department and provide optimal service to all first-team players.
- To provide first-class manual and exercise therapy-based treatment to first-team players.
- To assist in the delivery of the departmental aims and objectives, creating a department viewed as the best in the division in terms of injury prevention and management.
- To attend all first-team games and tours as required.
The role will be based at The New Lawn Stadium, Forest Green, and you will be expected to travel as necessary to fulfill your job requirements.
Hours of work
- A minimum of 40 hours per week.
- Flexibility is essential – ability to work irregular and unsocial hours as required, often with less than 24 hours’ notice.
- Work outside normal hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Attendance at appointments, events, dinners, tournaments may be required.
- All holiday to be taken during the football off-season.
Management of Other Staff
- Support the work of first-team interns and assist the Head Academy Physiotherapist.
- Assist the first-team physiotherapist in the professional development of all Academy medical staff.
- Contribute to mid-season and end-of-season reviews to assess progression and provide feedback.
Management of Injuries
- Deliver first-class treatment to all first-team players, aiming for efficient return from injury.
- Contribute to treatment and management plans for injured players.
- Work with the medical team to ensure best practices in all aspects of care.
- Implement evidence-based practices and support the physiotherapist during rehabilitation.
- Develop injury management plans with realistic milestones, communicated in departmental meetings.
- Provide daily treatment plans aligned with injury management and progress markers.
- Contribute to in-service training programs.
- Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary team members regarding diagnosis, management, and recovery timelines.
- Complete medical notes within 24 hours of treatment.
Injury Prevention
- Liaise daily with strength and conditioning staff to inform decisions on player availability and readiness.
- Work with the conditioning team on injury prevention routines.
- Contribute to individualized injury prevention programs based on screening and injury history.
Medical Provision at Matches/Tours
- Travel with the team to provide therapy treatments before and during matches.
- Attend matches and be available for pre-match preparations.
- Rehabilitate and treat players at the stadium on match days.
- Be available post-match to assess and treat players as needed.
Medical Consultations
- Accompany players to medical consultations ensuring optimal care.
Continual Professional Development
- Work towards SMART targets for personal and departmental development.
- Maintain a Personal Development Plan (PDP).
- Meet regularly with the physiotherapist to review SMART targets.
- Undertake training in line with league rules (ATMMiF), funded by the club.
- Attend courses and conferences, maintaining an up-to-date portfolio of achievements.
About You
Qualifications
- Relevant degree in Physiotherapy, sports rehabilitation, or sports therapy.
- Registered with CSP / Society of Sports Therapy / BASRAT or equivalent.
- Full driving license and access to a car.
- Desirable: advanced pitch-side first aid qualification (ATMMiF equivalent).
Experience
- Minimum 3 years in an elite sporting environment.
- Experience developing and evaluating rehabilitation programs for elite football players.
- Experience delivering soft tissue/manual therapy treatments.
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience with innovative practices and clinical assessment of MSK conditions.
- Experience modifying rehab programs and injury prevention strategies.
