Job summary

The Best Connection is recruiting a First Line Manager in Nottingham to lead daily warehouse operations on a hands-on, front-line basis. You will work closely with the Shift Manager to allocate resources, coordinate inbound and outbound tasks, and ensure safety and performance targets are met.

You will guide and coach warehouse staff, monitor attendance and conduct, and promote a positive team environment. The role offers development opportunities in leadership and continuous improvement

Qualifications

• Experience in a warehouse, logistics or distribution environment.
• Experience leading, coordinating, or supervising teams is advantageous.
• Good communication and people skills to build positive working relationships.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and warehouse management systems.
• Proactive, organised and willing to own issues through resolution.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily warehouse activities across Inbound, Returns, Pick, Pack, and Outbound operations.
• Support allocation of resources and daily workload to meet service levels and targets.
• Communicate shift priorities, performance updates and requirements via team briefs and handovers.
• Act as first point of contact for operational issues and help resolve day-to-day challenges.
• Provide guidance and coaching to warehouse colleagues.
• Monitor attendance, performance and conduct; escalate concerns as needed.
• Promote a positive, accountable and collaborative team environment.
• Support training and development for new and existing colleagues.
• Lead by example to promote safe working practices and compliance with site procedures.
• Carry out operational and housekeeping checks and assist investigations and corrective actions.

Role Title: First Line Manager

Department: Warehouse Operations

Salary: Starting from £29,000 dependant on experience

Role Purpose

The First Line Manager role is a hands-on position supporting the daily running of warehouse operations, providing front-line leadership to ensure a safe, efficient, and productive working environment. Working closely with the Shift Manager, you will coordinate operational activities, support colleagues on shift, and help deliver customer and site performance targets. This role provides an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their leadership skills while gaining exposure to managing resources, performance, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities & Daily Workload

Operational Leadership & Performance

• Coordinate daily warehouse activities across Inbound, Returns, Pick, Pack, and Outbound operations.
• Support the allocation of resources and daily workload to ensure service levels and operational targets are achieved.
• Communicate shift priorities, performance updates, and operational requirements through team briefs and handovers.
• Act as a first point of contact for operational issues, escalating where necessary and helping to resolve day-to-day challenges.

People Management & Development

• Provide support, guidance, and coaching to warehouse colleagues.
• Monitor attendance, performance, and conduct, escalating concerns where appropriate.
• Promote a positive team environment that encourages engagement, accountability, and collaboration.
• Support training and development activities for both new and existing colleagues.

Health, Safety & Compliance

• Lead by example and promote safe working practices at all times.
• Ensure compliance with site health and safety procedures, reporting any hazards or incidents promptly.
• Carry out regular operational and housekeeping checks to maintain site standards.
• Support investigations and corrective actions where required.

Skills & Experience

• Previous experience in a warehouse, logistics, or distribution environment.
• Experience of leading, coordinating, or supervising teams would be advantageous.
• Good communication and people skills with the ability to build positive working relationships.
• Able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
• Competent in Microsoft Office applications and warehouse management systems.
• Proactive, organised, and willing to take ownership of issues through to resolution.
