Job summary

GlaxoSmithKline is seeking a First Line Leader at our Barnard Castle site to develop and enable a shift-based team. The role focuses on safety, quality, service and value along the supply chain, with direct hour-by-hour impact on the site’s three zeros for accidents, defects and waste.

The FLL will coach, develop and empower the team, drive performance using GPS principles and ensure compliance with GSK policies while maintaining a proactive safety culture.

Qualifications

  • Previous team leadership experience is highly advantageous.
  • Leadership skills including setting clear expectations and providing constructive feedback.
  • Active participation in problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to coach and inspire others to improve.
  • Ability to stop production if a standard is not being adhered to.
  • Previous manufacturing environment experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coach teams on shift to ensure adherence to safety, quality, compliance and output.
  • Provide coaching and development to improve behaviour and performance of individuals and the team whilst holding people to account for the duties that they are responsible.
  • Drive Performance Management using GPS principles.
  • Manage a team in line with GSK and Barnard Castle policies, liaising with HR to stay compliant and mitigate risk.
  • Be proactive in driving a positive Safety culture.
  • Establish a fully trained and capable team that is high performing and forward thinking to achieve results while staying safe and compliant.

About the Company

GSK Barnard Castle is a key secondary manufacturing site and has invested heavily in industry 4.0 state of the art, bespoke equipment to support sustained new product introductions and volume increases, and as a key supplier of some of GSK's blockbuster products, the site contributes revenues of ~$2Bn annually. About the Role

The purpose of the First Line Leader (FLL) role is to develop and enable a first touch team of operators to consistently deliver outstanding safety, quality, service and value to the person at the end of our supply chain. The role has a direct hour by hour impact on the ambition of the GMS Strategy to achieve the three zeros on Accidents, Defects and Waste. It is a key role in ensuring that the business strategy is delivered through an engaged, motivated and capable team of staff. This is a shift based role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coach teams on shift to ensure adherence to standards for safety, quality, compliance and output.

Basic Qualifications & Skills

  • Demonstrated ability of leadership skills including setting clear expectations, providing positive reinforcing feedback and dealing with issues as they arise.
  • Active participation in problem solving and striving for continuous improvement.
  • The ability to coach and inspire others to improve.
  • Ability to take decisions to stop production if a standard is not being adhered to.
  • Previous manufacturing environment experience is advantageous.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
  • Track record of engagement in problem solving on issues with evidence of leadership of small teams.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and influencing skills.
