Qualifications

  • Registered with HCPC, physiotherapy degree, and experience at a senior physiotherapist level required.
  • Proven experience in managing a team and overseeing diagnostics work.
  • Membership of relevant clinical interest groups appreciated.

  • Supervise junior physiotherapists and MSK Practitioners in clinical care.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • HCPC registered
  • Physiotherapy degree
  • Completed Stage 1 of the FCP Road map
  • Experience working at a senior physiotherapist level seeing patients in a musculoskeletal setting (equivalent B7 or 8a)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development in relevant clinical and management areas
  • Clinical leadership
  • Experience in ordering diagnostics/investigations & tests
  • Experience of clinical supervision / mentoring
  • Experience in Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Chronic pain
  • Experience in managing a team
  • Previous experience of Telephone triage work
  • Membership of MSK related clinical interest groups
  • Experience of working with both NHS and Private patient caseloads
  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (MCSP)
Duties of this role include:
  • To work as an FCP within the MSK service and local GP practices in Greenwich alongside other clinicians such as fellow physios, APPs, MSK Physicians and consultants.
  • To undertake highly specialised & comprehensive neuro-musculoskeletal assessments of routine and complex patients.
  • To form accurate diagnoses, management plans and prognosis, using advanced clinical reasoning skills, knowledge of best current clinical and evidence-based practice, and interpretation of clinical diagnostic tests.
  • To independently refer for diagnostic procedures such as MRI, USS, X-Ray and NCS (after appropriate training/supervision if necessary).
  • To refer patients to appropriate specialties within primary and secondary care.
  • It is desirable that the candidate can independently administer joint and soft tissue injections (or work towards such a skill).
  • To communicate effectively and professionally with patients and medical colleagues regarding assessment, management, and treatment choices.
  • To contribute to and participate in ongoing development/IST within the MSK team.
  • To work in a unified manner with other team members across the MSK service in following and developing clinical pathways.
  • To triage incoming MSK referrals and make decisions regarding the most appropriate referral to care providers either within or outside the service.
  • To provide an excellent level of service to all patients and stakeholders.
  • To supervise physiotherapists and MSK Practitioners in their clinical care provision.
Professional Development
  • To maintain a high standard of physiotherapy practice, working to the CSP ‘Codes of Practice’.
  • To have knowledge of, and comply with, legal frameworks relevant to practice e.g., Injection Therapy, prescribing. To be aware of the boundaries of own extended scope of practice and seek appropriate support and guidance when needed.
  • To keep abreast of national clinical and professional agendas and published frameworks, guidance, standards, policies, and protocols relevant to the service e.g., NICE, NJR, Royal Colleges.
  • To be responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient notes and communicate outcomes with the referrer and other relevant healthcare professionals in an effective and timely manner.
  • To maintain and develop own CPD in line with company policy and undertake regular peer review and annual appraisal.
Administrative
  • To produce timely and detailed clinical reports to other relevant healthcare professionals involved in the patient's care.
  • To organise and manage appropriate delegation of admin work to the admin team.
  • To triage within allocated time slots.
  • To participate and be proactive in undertaking regular clinical audits of the service as required by the lead clinician.
  • To contribute, as required, to internal and external educational/teaching initiatives to other medical/AHP colleagues.
