Job description

Overview

We are looking for a First Contact Physiotherapist to join our close-knit team at Downton Road Surgery. We are a well-organised, well-regarded training practice in South Bristol, with a strong presence in our PCN and with well-established links in our community.

We would like a knowledgeable and motivated FCP to provide high-quality MSK assessment and treatment to our adult patients for two days per week on a permanent contract. The role will involve initial assessment of patients in half-hour appointments, with some capacity to follow up more complex patients, and the ability to refer onwards to secondary care if appropriate. All patients are booked into appointments by our team of trained patient navigators.

We have been proud in the past to support our first contact physios to develop their skills, such as ordering radiological investigations, and training to perform intra-articular steroid injections as required. We are a large but close team, and would expect to support any successful applicant with ongoing professional development.

The successful applicant will have a high level of clinical knowledge and experience in the physiotherapy management of patients with MSK conditions. They will be able to utilise highly specialist MSK assessment skills to formulate management and treatment plans, including onward referral if needed. They will be working independently, and professionally responsible for their work within their scope of practice, with support from the wider GP team.

Applicants are expected to be working at a minimum of an NHS band 6 level or equivalent.

About Us

Downton Road Surgery was forged in January 2024 following the merger of the Crest and Merrywood practices within the William Budd Health Centre in Knowle West. We serve a population of 14,500 patients in a deprived but supportive suburban area. Our team is made up of 14 GPs, 2 ANPs, a mental health worker and 3 Clinical Pharmacists, alongside nurses and HCAs in our treatment room. We also have a highly trained administrative support team meaning administrative workload is low volume and efficient for clinical staff.
