Job description

Start your career in a field that protects lives - and learn from the very best.

As a Fire Safety Trainee, you'll get hands-on experience, expert training and a clear path into one of the most vital and in-demand careers in housing and building safety. You don't need a background in fire safety. Just bring your curiosity, commitment and a willingness to get stuck in - we'll support you to build the skills you need to thrive.

Working Style:

You'll be based in the Borough for three days a week, playing a key role in serving the local community. Whether you're working on the frontline or behind the scenes, you'll be part of a dedicated team making a real difference to residents' lives.

What you'll be doing:

You'll join our experienced fire safety team and learn on the job, helping to manage fire risks across our housing stock. At first, you'll assist with implementing fire risk assessment actions and supporting resident engagement - helping make sure our homes are safe and our residents informed.

As you build your knowledge, you'll begin carrying out safety inspections, checking contractor work and reviewing straightforward fire risk assessments. You'll also support the team in preparing Building Safety Cases and helping the service maintain key industry accreditations.

This is a blended role - you'll spend time on site, in residents' homes and in the office, all while working alongside experts who are invested in your progress.

What you'll bring

You don't need specific qualifications - just a strong work ethic, a positive attitude and a real interest in learning more about building and fire safety. If you've already got some basic awareness of fire safety, that's a plus, but it's not essential.

You'll need to be confident using IT, organised in your work and comfortable communicating clearly - whether you're sending an email or talking face-to-face. You'll also be someone who values teamwork, takes pride in getting things right and is committed to providing excellent service for our residents.

Above all, you'll bring integrity, energy and the determination to build something that lasts.

Why join us

At RBKC, we're all in - investing in our people, our communities and our future.

This role is a unique opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification (the CFPA European Diploma in Fire Safety), with all training and costs covered by us.

You'll join a welcoming and supportive team, get real responsibility from the start and gain skills that are in demand across the country. We'll be with you every step of the way - helping you grow your confidence, build your knowledge and see the impact of your work every day.
