A pioneering education group seeks a Fire Safety Officer to ensure compliance with fire safety legislation across its campuses in the UK. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in advising on fire safety practices, conducting assessments, and promoting a positive safety culture, thereby supporting the organization's commitment to providing a safe environment for all building users.
About the role:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join us as Fire Safety Officer on a permanent basis. The post-holder will play a key role within the Health and Safety team, providing professional advice, support, and oversight on all matters relating to fire safety across the organisation.
You will act as the Group's lead for fire safety, working closely with the Health and Safety Manager, Property and Environment teams, and senior managers to maintain a fire-safe environment for students, staff, and visitors. This includes both strategic and operational responsibilities, contributing to compliance with fire safety legislation, improving fire safety standards, and promoting a strong safety culture.
This role supports the achievement of key fire-related performance indicators, with a focus on quality, continuous improvement, and innovation. It is central to progressing fire safety provision across the organisation, helping to deliver a positive and safe experience for all building users while supporting the wider objectives of the Health and Safety team.
This is a permanent, full-time position that can be based at any of our campuses. You will have responsibilities for all of our locations in Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Surrey, so some travel will be required.
What do you need to be successful as a Fire Safety Officer at Activate Learning?
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, alongside sound IT skills and the ability to manage your own workload, including responding to urgent or unplanned requests under time pressure.
You must:
The ideal candidate will also have NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent, have experience in conducting fire risk assessments in educational environments, familiarity with the unique fire safety challenges in environments with diverse adult learners, possibly including those with disabilities or limited English proficiency. You should have strong working knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, building regulations, British Standards, and fire safety codes of practice (e.g., BS 9999).
You should be confident in areas related to managing fire risk, including managing risk assessments, policies, emergency plans and evacuation procedures, as well as promoting a fire safe culture, delivering training and leading or supporting post-incident investigations.
