Fire Safety Manager –South West based Council (Hybrid – site visits & home working)
£430 per day PAYE / £550 per day Umbrella
Full-time, 37 hours per week
Ongoing temporary contract

Overview of the role: We’re seeking an experienced Fire Safety Manager to lead on fire safety assurance across a wide-ranging residential portfolio, including high-rise and supported housing. This is a hybrid position, combining home working with site inspections and collaboration with Avon Fire & Rescue Service.
The ideal candidate will hold a Level 4 or Level 5 Fire Safety qualification and bring extensive strategic and operational expertise to the role. You’ll be managing fire safety officers, overseeing FRA contractors, responding to enforcement notices, and contributing to the council’s wider building safety programme.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead fire safety strategy and ensure statutory/regulatory compliance across all housing types.
  • Liaise with Avon Fire & Rescue and other key stakeholders to manage fire risk across the portfolio.
  • Oversee fire safety policy development, audits, inspections, and enforcement responses.
  • Direct the work of Fire Safety Officers and FRA contractors, ensuring quality assurance.
  • Support resident engagement, particularly in high-rise and higher-risk buildings.
  • Provide technical advice and leadership on fire safety matters to internal and external partners.
  • Requirements:
  • Minimum Level 4 / Level 5 qualification in Fire Safety or Fire Risk Assessment.
  • Demonstrable experience leading complex fire safety programmes in residential settings.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks, including the Building Safety Act and Fire Safety Regulations.
