Job summary

Public Sector in Greater Manchester is seeking a Group Fire Safety Manager to lead fire safety across a large housing portfolio. This senior role within Building and Fire Safety involves technical leadership, team management, and ensuring robust compliance.

You will collaborate with senior leaders, asset management, development, repairs and external partners to identify risks, improve compliance and drive fire safety standards.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in fire safety, ideally within housing/public sector.
• Strong knowledge of current fire safety legislation, guidance and standards.
• Experience overseeing Fire Risk Assessment programmes and managing actions.
• Experience leading or developing a specialist team.
• Experience coordinating with external consultants and contractors.
• Excellent IT and reporting skills, including Excel and compliance databases.
• Excellent communication skills for senior stakeholder presentations.
• A relevant Fire Safety qualification (NEBOSH Fire or equivalent).
• Membership in a professional body (IFE/IFSM) desirable.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Fire Risk Assessment programme and ensure actions are completed.
• Provide technical advice on fire safety legislation and best practices.
• Ensure statutory inspections and fire safety checks are completed on time.
• Oversee fire safety audits, investigations and reporting.
• Develop and review fire safety policies, procedures and guidance.
• Produce management information and reports for leadership.
• Deliver fire safety training and guidance to colleagues.
• Collaborate with Asset Management, Development and Repairs to embed fire safety across projects.
• Manage relationships with contractors, regulators and stakeholders.
• Lead and develop a small team of Fire Safety professionals.
• Deputise for Head of Building Safety when required.

Fire Safety Manager – Social Housing

Greater Manchester
Up to £66,000 per annum

The Role

We are working with an established housing provider to appoint an experienced Group Fire Safety Manager to take a lead role in the organisation’s approach to fire safety.
This is a senior position within the Building and Fire Safety function, with responsibility for providing technical leadership, managing a specialist team and ensuring fire safety arrangements remain robust across a large property portfolio.

You will work closely with senior leaders, asset management, development, repairs and external partners to identify risks, strengthen compliance and continually improve fire safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the organisation’s Fire Risk Assessment programme, ensuring actions are effectively managed through to completion.
• Provide technical advice on fire safety legislation, regulations and best practice across the organisation.
• Ensure statutory inspections and fire safety checks, including fire door inspections, are completed within required timescales.
• Oversee fire safety audits, incident investigations and relevant statutory reporting.
• Develop and review fire safety policies, procedures, strategies and guidance.
• Produce management information and reports for senior leadership and governance groups.
• Deliver fire safety training, briefings and guidance to colleagues.
• Work closely with Asset Management, Development and Repairs teams to ensure fire safety is embedded across projects and property management.
• Manage relationships with contractors, consultants, regulators and external stakeholders.
• Lead and develop a small team of Fire Safety professionals.
• Deputise for the Head of Building Safety when required.

About You

• Significant experience within fire safety, ideally gained within social housing.
• Strong knowledge of current fire safety legislation, guidance and standards.
• Experience overseeing Fire Risk Assessment programmes and managing associated actions.
• Previous experience managing or developing a specialist team.
• Experience managing external consultants and contractors.
• Strong analytical, reporting and IT skills, including Excel and compliance databases.
• Excellent communication skills and confidence presenting recommendations to senior stakeholders.
• A relevant Fire Safety qualification, such as NEBOSH Fire, Fire Safety Diploma or equivalent.
• Membership of a relevant professional body such as IFE or IFSM is desirable.
• A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
