Job description

Founded in 1837, the Royal College of Art (RCA) is the world’s largest community of postgraduate art and design students. About the Role

We are seeking aFire Safety Advisor (0.8 FTE)to provide expert fire safety advice across the RCA’s three campuses and occasional external sites. The role will be instrumental in developing and maintaining fire safety strategies and plans in line with the College’s Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HSW) policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice and guidance to staff and students to ensure compliance with legal, moral, and financial fire safety responsibilities.
  • Support the Head of Risk Resilience & Safety in developing a comprehensiveFire Safety Strategyfor the College.
  • Design and deliverFire Safety and Awareness Training.
  • Leadfire safety investigationsand report key findings, including lessons learned from public inquiries and incidents.
  • Develop site-specificfire safety management systems.
  • Conductfire audits and inspectionsacross all RCA buildings.
  • Advise on fire safety risk assessments, includingDSEAR compliance.
  • Manage and report ontermly fire drillsand evacuation plans.
  • Provide fire safety advice for College events and exhibitions held at external venues.
  • Liaise with theLondon Fire Brigade (LFB)and other external stakeholders regarding fire safety audits and inspections.
  • Work closely with Estates teams onfire safety engineering, protection systems, and compliance with building regulations.

About You

We are looking for acompetent and experienced fire safety professionalwith a strong understanding of fire risk management in a complex environment. You will be confident in engaging with a range of stakeholders and ensuring fire safety is embedded within the College’s culture.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of UKfire safety legislation, codes, and standards.
  • Experience conductingfire risk assessments and auditsin a multi-site environment.
  • Proven ability todevelop and implement fire safety strategies and policies.
  • Strong communication and training skills, with experience deliveringfire safety training.
  • Experience working with external agencies such as theLFB and regulatory bodies.
