Job description

We are looking for a committed individual to fulfill the duties of a Fire Safety Advisor for Royal Berkshire Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (RBFT), in accordance with RBFT Fire Safety Policy. This includes liaison with outside professional bodies, including, but not limited to: local Fire Authorities, Council Building Control, Architects, Design Teams, Building Inspectors, Local Fire and Rescue Service Operational Crews, Inspectors, and the Authorising Engineer (Fire).

The post holder will lead the strategic development of the fire safety program of work, delivered by the Estates Department through maintenance activities and capital investment. This will include a rolling 5-year investment strategy to ensure continuous improvement of compliance, demonstrated through KPI and SLAP reporting packs aligned with HTM05 guidance, HBN, and regulatory standards.

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Develop, monitor, maintain, and report on RBFT’s fire safety and compliance strategy, making recommendations for managing related risks and for a prioritized investment strategy.
  2. Develop and maintain RBFT’s Fire Safety Policy, Code of Practice, and operating procedures.
  3. Implement a program of routine auditing to report on Fire Safety standards at RBFT.
  4. Implement annual Fire Risk Assessments, developing appropriate remedial actions and compliance strategies.
  5. Support RBFT department leads with developing and maintaining Local Evacuation and Emergency Plans (LEEPs), including evacuation training and records.
