Job overview

NELFT has around 133 buildings over London, Essex, and Kent, some owned and some leased. This post involves managing the Trust’s Fire Risk Assessments across the Trust and liaising with PFI and landlords to ensure the delivery of FRA's and other fire documents.

The role includes managing digital software and auditing all fire risk assessments and fire drills.

The postholder will report directly to the fire safety manager and assist in fire safety duties, including attending fire warden training, advising on fire policies, and incident reporting.

Responsibilities include carrying out fire risk assessments, creating action plans, and holding regular meetings with estates and building managers to ensure completion and sign-off of actions.

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Trust Fire Officer, the post holder will be the Trust’s Fire Safety Risk Assessor, responsible for developing, planning, and implementing fire risk assessments, assessing performance and compliance, and promoting a safe working environment.

The role involves providing advice on fire safety, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, and being involved in fire safety incidents, which may be stressful and traumatic but must be handled efficiently.

High Cost Area Supplement

This post attracts a 15% supplement of the basic salary, ranging from £4,551 to £5,735.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

• Manage risk assessments and statutory fire safety testing within the Trust property portfolio.
• Act as Trust representative with local authority and building control officers for fire regulations.
• Provide expert advice on fire safety compliance and legislation, including the Fire Safety Regulatory Reform Act (2005), the Building Safety Act (2024), and relevant HTMs.
• Implement fire safety precautions using risk-managed techniques and industry best practices.
• Work with senior management to ensure fire safety compliance and develop fire safety policies and strategies.
• Coordinate and manage fire risk assessments, including planning, execution, and monitoring actions.
• Investigate fire-related incidents and produce reports.
• Develop and deliver fire safety training and conduct fire drills, ensuring staff are trained and records are maintained.
• Collaborate with estates and security teams to develop strategic fire safety plans and maintain fire hazard documentation.
• Assist in the design and planning of new or existing buildings regarding fire precautions, liaising with various departments and external agencies.
• Communicate complex fire safety information effectively to senior managers, external stakeholders, and staff.

Experience

• Thorough knowledge of fire safety, risk assessments, legislation, and NHS fire standards.
• Ability to undertake fire risk assessments.
• NHS experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Fire Engineering/Fire Safety Management or relevant experience.
• Membership of professional organizations (e.g., MIFireE, CFPA).
• NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate or equivalent qualification.
• Certification on HTM Healthcare Premises.
