We provide fire safety installation, servicing, maintenance and compliance solutions, combining technical expertise with responsive, personalised service.

As part of Helix International Group, Firetecnics combines specialist fire safety engineering with the support of a wider risk, compliance and technology group.

Job Purpose

The Fire Extinguisher Engineer is responsible for the servicing, maintenance, commissioning and installation of portable fire extinguishers and associated equipment at customer sites, delivered in accordance with BS 5306-3, BS 5306-8 and the company’s BAFE SP101 registration. The role ensures each customer’s fire extinguisher provision remains fully compliant, correctly specified and in good working order, delivering a professional, safety focused and customer friendly service that protects life, property and the company’s accreditation.

What You Will Be Doing:
Servicing Maintenance and Overhaul
  • Carry out basic (annual) and extended servicing, overhaul, recharge and discharge testing of portable fire extinguishers in accordance with BS 5306-3.
  • Inspect, test and maintain extinguishers and ancillary equipment (fire blankets, hose reels, signage and brackets) to manufacturer and British Standard requirements.
  • Identify defective, out-of-date or non-compliant equipment, condemning and replacing units as required and advising the customer.
  • Work to planned maintenance schedules, maximising first visit completion and minimising return visits.
Commissioning Installation and Surveys
  • Commission and install new portable fire extinguishers, ensuring correct type, rating, siting and mounting.
  • Carry out extinguisher surveys and provision assessments in line with BS 5306-8, recommending the correct number, type and location of units.
  • Prepare accurate recommendations and quotations for additional supply, replacement or remedial works identified during servicing.
Compliance and Quality

  • Maintain accurate asset records, service labels and certification, ensuring a full audit trail for every site.
  • Support internal and BAFE / third-party audits, upholding the company’s accreditation and reputation.
Administration Reporting and Stock
  • Complete service certificates, worksheets, asset registers and non-conformance reports accurately via handheld / portal systems.
  • Manage van stock, parts and consumables, keeping accurate records and ensuring stock levels support efficient service delivery.
  • Maintain the company vehicle, tools and test equipment in a safe, clean and serviceable condition.
Customer Service and Health and Safety
  • Represent the company professionally on customer sites, providing clear advice and excellent customer service.
  • Build and maintain positive customer relationships, identifying and referring additional service and supply opportunities.
  • Work safely at all times in line with health and safety legislation, company policy and site RAMS, including the safe handling of pressurised equipment.
What We Are Looking For

  • Strong fault-finding ability, attention to detail and accurate record-keeping.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of BAFE SP101 scheme requirements.
  • Additional fire safety qualifications (e.g. hose reels, dry / wet riser or emergency lighting awareness).
  • First Aid, IOSH Working Safely and Asbestos Awareness certificates.
