Job Description
Fire Engineer - Bristol, UK
About the Role
Aztec West, Bristol (hybrid working).
Are you an engineer with expertise in fire studies? Looking to advance your career in an exciting and high-profile nuclear project? Join EDF as a Fire Engineer and play a key role in one of the most ambitious nuclear ventures in the UK.
The Opportunity
EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is at the forefront of the nuclear energy revolution.
As part of Edvance—a joint venture between EDF and Framatome—EPR-E leads the design and delivery of nuclear islands for major projects, including Hinkley Point C (HPC) and Sizewell C (SZC). At HPC, we are building two new reactors that will provide low-carbon electricity for around six million homes. Your expertise as a Fire Engineer will ensure that fire safety functions remain operational and compliant with UK safety standards, working closely with safety teams, system engineers, civil engineers, and plant layout engineers.
Pay, benefits and culture
Alongside a competitive starting salary of £55,000 (negotiable depending on experience), bonus and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal. We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym memberships to season ticket loans.
At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone’s working needs are different. Whether you’re in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort.
No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated. Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority backgrounds, and support social mobility.
We’re a confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments. We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed.
That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.
What you’ll be doing
Who you are
We’re looking for a highly motivated engineer with a degree (or equivalent) in safety and/or fire protection technologies. You’ll need a strong understanding of ETCF (EPR Technical Code for Fire) and UK Fire Regulations, including BS9999. Experience in the nuclear sector would be highly advantageous.
You should have hands-on experience with fire protection calculations and specialized software, as well as the ability to develop and implement innovative fire safety solutions.
Your analytical mindset and keen attention to detail will help you assess risks and propose effective strategies. We need someone who thrives on problem-solving, enjoys working collaboratively across disciplines, and can confidently navigate complex fire safety requirements. If you speak French, that’s a bonus!
