Job summary

SOCOTEC UK Building and Real Estate invites applications for a Fire Engineer to join our Fire Engineering team. You will develop fire safety strategies, perform site visits, and contribute to technical reports across diverse building projects.

Ideal candidates hold an engineering degree (mechanical/structural/civil) plus a postgraduate fire engineering qualification, with 2+ years in a similar role and a strong focus on safety.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in engineering (mechanical, structural, civil or similar) and a postgraduate fire engineering qualification (certificate, diploma or masters)
  • At least two years' experience in a similar role and a passion for fire safety
  • Confident communicator with customer service skills and ability to work independently or in a team

Responsibilities

  • Develop fire safety strategies and mark-ups for buildings and infrastructure projects
  • Provide advisory support and carry out site visits during construction
  • Prepare assessment reports of external wall systems and perform CFD modelling and structural fire engineering analyses

Job Description

Fire Engineer

As SOCOTEC grows, so do our teams. We're looking for a dedicated Fire Engineer to join our Fire Engineering team and wear the SOCOTEC badge with pride.

We are seeking a proactive, reliable, and flexible Fire Engineer to join our Fire Engineering team. In this role, you'll need the confidence to work independently, alongside the ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team. A background in engineering (mechanical, structural, civil or similar field), along with knowledge of fire safety issues and relevant legislation and design guidance such as Approved Document B (ADB), BS 9999, BS 9991 and BS 7974, is essential to thrive in this position.

The tasks you will undertake will include (but are not limited to):

  • Develop fire safety strategies and associated mark-ups for various buildings and infrastructure projects
  • Provide advisory support and carry out site visits during construction stage
  • Prepare assessment reports of external wall systems and prepare other technical engineering analysis such as CFD modelling, structural fire engineering using programs such as FDS/PyroSim, Pathfinder, SAFIR, B-Risk
Qualifications

To be a successful Fire Engineer, you should be able to demonstrate:

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in engineering (mechanical, structural, civil or similar field) and a postgraduate fire engineering qualification (certificate, diploma or masters)
  • At least two years' experience in a similar role and to be extremely passionate about fire safety
  • Confident communicator, good customer service skills, self-motivated, able to prioritise and work on own initiative, as well as following instructions and working as part of a team
