Overview

First Military Recruitment is currently seeking a Fire Engineer on behalf of one of our clients. The successful candidate will be involved across the entire building lifecycle—from initial design through to in-occupation services. Responsibilities may include contributing to building design, construction services, and/or conducting fire safety risk assessments, depending on experience.

Our client encourages applications from ex-military personnel; however, all candidates will be given due consideration.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Preparing fire strategy reports and collaborating with stakeholders throughout the design process.
  2. Assisting clients in meeting requirements under relevant legislation, including the Building Safety Act 2022, secondary legislation, the Building Regulations 2010, and the Fire Safety Order.
  3. Analyzing fire risk and providing guidance on suitable control measures.
  4. Supporting internal design teams as part of multidisciplinary projects.
  5. Working across various buildings and sectors on different fire safety challenges.
  6. Coordinating inspections and remedial works with the client’s team.
  7. Documenting site particulars, preparing schedules of works, and, in collaboration with others, preparing specifications, obtaining estimates, planning work programs, monitoring progress, and ensuring compliance.
  8. Applying a practical and methodical approach to problem-solving within fixed budgets and deadlines.
  9. Providing advice on applications for Building Regulations Approval related to fire safety.

Skills and Qualifications:

  1. Completion of a degree in fire safety or fire risk engineering is essential.
  2. Membership of the Institution of Fire Engineers and progress towards professional registration with the Engineering Council are required.
  3. The role is expected to grow and develop, and ongoing training will be supported by the client.
