Job summary

EA-RS Group Ltd is seeking a Fire Damper Tester to inspect and test fire dampers in hospitals, offices, universities, and other occupied spaces across the UK. You will assess installation quality, identify defects, and document findings with clear engineer comments for clients.

The role requires independent work, national travel, and flexibility for occasional nights or weekends. A professional, client-facing manner is essential and a driving licence is preferred.

Qualifications

• Proven experience carrying out fire damper inspections/testing.
• Good understanding of fire damper standards and manufacturer requirements.
• Identify installation defects beyond drop tests.
• Understand relationship between damper, structure and fire compartments.
• Recognise issues like incorrect installation, damaged dampers, access problems, fire stopping and fixings.
• Competent with testing/reporting systems and photographic evidence.
• Clear, client-friendly engineer comments.
• Comfortable working in hospitals, commercial buildings, universities and occupied spaces.
• Good customer-facing skills and professional communication.
• Able to travel nationally and work occasional nights/weekends.
• Willing to perform basic remedial works.

About the Role

The purpose of the position of Fire Damper Tester is to carry out fire damper inspections/testing.

What we need

• Proven experience carrying out fire damper inspections/testing.
• Good understanding of relevant fire damper standards, manufacturer requirements and industry guidance.
• Able to identify installation defects, not simply perform a drop test.
• Understands the relationship between the damper, supporting construction and surrounding fire compartment.
• Able to recognise issues such as incorrect installation, damaged/modified dampers, access problems, missing/incorrect fire stopping and unsuitable fixings.
• Competent using testing/reporting systems and producing good-quality photographic evidence.
• Able to write clear, accurate engineer comments that a client can understand.
• Comfortable working in hospitals, commercial buildings, universities and other occupied environments.
• Good customer-facing skills — professional, presentable and able to communicate with site contacts.
• Able to work independently and manage their own workload.
• Willing to travel nationally and work occasional nights/weekends where projects require it.
• Strong preference: someone who can also undertake basic remedial works.
• Driving licence essential.
• To be able to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
• To assist other members of the team when needed.
• To be part of the on-call rota.
• Be able to converse with customers in a professional manner.
