Sussex Police is seeking a Fire Safety Compliance professional to oversee and manage fire safety tasks at Sussex Police Headquarters, Lewes. The role focuses on inspections, risk assessments, and liaison with external contractors to ensure full compliance with fire safety standards.
The successful candidate will hold recognised fire risk assessor qualifications, advanced NFRAR or IFSM/IFE membership, and NEBOSH certificates, contributing to a safer environment for staff and the public.
This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst remaining two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions.
Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions.
Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowances and hours.

The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe.
In this role you will be responsible for the oversight, management and completion of tasks and inspections related to compliance, particularly fire compliance. The task will include fire door inspections, fire risk assessments, compartmentation assessments, fire extinguisher inspections and management, fire egress checks, fire alarm testing and liaison with external contractors to undertake tests and inspections outside of your direct responsibility or requiring specialist skills. You will also be responsible for record keeping to ensure associated compliance registers are up to date. You will report to the Fire Safety Manager, who will be directly responsible to the Police and Crime Commissioner (as Fire Competent Person) and Chief Operating Officer for all fire compliance related issues.
