Reporting directly into the Business Controller of a successful global energy trader, the successful candidate will play a key role within the Finance team, managing all financial reporting for the UK.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Produce high-quality, relevant financial reports and KPIs. Present financial results to the CFO and UK Business Controller monthly to support Board submissions and business decisions.
- Provide business analysis to alert senior management to deviations from financial objectives and recommend corrective actions.
- Compile and take responsibility for financial statements of 13 legal entities, including profit & loss accounts, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of monthly financial statements for the UK Board.
- Coordinate annual tax computations, ensuring compliance with legislation and timely submission.
- Collaborate with senior managers on accounting matters to support effective relationships.
Financial Control and Integrity
- Develop a strong control environment, identifying issues, implementing controls, and ensuring compliance across accounts payable, receivable, expenses, fixed assets, and general ledger.
- Review monthly financial statements for accuracy, transparency, and compliance with UK GAAP and company policies.
- Advise on accounting treatment for non-routine transactions and assess the impact of new accounting standards.
Line Management
- Supervise and coach a team of 5 finance staff, fostering motivation and development.
- Lead resource planning and process improvements to enhance team performance and service delivery.
External Audit
- Prepare consolidated and statutory financial statements for 13 UK entities, coordinating the audit process.
- Manage year-end processes and liaise with external auditors.
- Prepare audit documentation, including accounting papers and UK GAAP reports.
Process Improvements and Projects
- Drive continuous improvement in financial reporting, SAP systems, and business processes.
- Lead system implementation projects and process enhancements, engaging stakeholders across functions.
Skills & Knowledge
- Degree in Finance, Accounting, or equivalent
- Qualified accountant (ACA)
- Experience in a major international group
- Proficiency in SAP, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Strong numeracy, accuracy, and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and analytical skills
- Problem-solving ability and team orientation
- Previous management experience preferred
