Role Overview

The Monitoring and Assurance Lead is a leadership position responsible for coordinating the development and maintenance of the independent financial crime assurance framework. This includes overseeing methodologies and assurance activities across internal and external 2LoD financial crime functions, as well as 1LoD control activities globally where delegated.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Coordinate the production and maintenance of the Financial Crime Assurance Framework.
  2. Oversee assurance activities over internal and external 2LoD financial crime functions, developing supporting methodologies.
  3. Manage assurance over 1LoD financial crime functions in the UK and globally, as delegated.
  4. Develop and oversee assurance and quality control methodologies, test scripts, and plans for the Group Financial Crime Function.
  5. Maintain frameworks for 2LoD thematic assurance over 1LoD and associated methodologies.
  6. Lead assurance planning for 2LoD financial assurance over 1LoD.
  7. Execute independent financial crime controls testing activities as part of risk and controls-self assessment (RCSA).
  8. Oversee methodology for financial crime risk model validation.
Additional Responsibilities
  1. Provide leadership to the Monitoring and Assurance team.
  2. Offer guidance and act as escalation point for Group Financial Crime Assurance.
  3. Build relationships with Internal Audit and Business Unit 1LoD teams to ensure an aligned and enterprise-wide assurance framework.
  4. Support the Global Head of AFC in daily oversight of financial crime issues.
  5. Perform other tasks as required.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Extensive experience in financial crime, with deep understanding of risks in asset management and/or insurance sectors.
  • Proven ability to design and manage control testing and assurance programs for financial crime risk management.
  • Experience in conducting thematic reviews and identifying process improvements.
  • Ability to summarize monitoring outcomes for senior management, including MLRO and governance committees.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills to influence stakeholders at all levels, including the Board.
  • Detail-oriented report writing skills focused on control enhancements.
