We are looking to hire ambitious talent to join Modulr, the fastest growing payments business in the UK and Europe, to drive fraud processing, whilst leading and managing a team to drive efficiency and high service standards.

This role supports both UK and European entities, with an "office-first" approach.

About us

At Modulr, our vision is a world where all businesses are powered by embedded payments. Modulr enables businesses, from SMEs to Enterprise, initially across the UK and Europe to efficiently pay-in, collect and disburse funds instantly via a range of payment schemes, accounts, and card products.

We have an industry-leading API platform with comprehensive online tools and access, to meet the demands of business payments. We have two routes to market. Our Core Business Payments product allows customers in any sector to connect to us and our expanding network of accounting and payroll platforms, including Sage, Xero, BrightPay and IRIS to automate payments. Our Vertical Solutions targets a growing range of industry verticals which directly connect their IT platforms to our APIs and webhooks. We solve complex payment problems across industries like Travel, Lending and Wage Advance.

We are deeply integrated into the payment eco-system. In the UK, we are direct participants of Faster Payments and Bacs. Modulr hold settlement accounts at the Bank of England. Our payment network connectivity includes CHAPS, Open Banking, SEPA, SWIFT and account issuance in multiple currencies. We are principal issuing members of Visa and Mastercard schemes across UK and Europe.

Our regulatory permissions and governance structure are the foundations of our business. We are regulated and supervised as an Authorised Electronic Money Institution (AEMI) in the UK by the Financial Conduct Authority and in the Netherlands by De Nederlandsche Bank.

Our founding team has a wealth of experience in the payments industry and growing successful businesses. Modulr is backed by the venture arms of payments giants PayPal and FIS, as well as growth investors Blenheim Chalcot, General Atlantic, Frog Capital and Highland Europe.

Modulr now has over 400 employees spread globally across offices in London, Edinburgh, Amsterdam, and Mumbai.

The Role & Specific Duties

As the Financial Crime Manager (Fraud), you will lead and manage a team within Financial Crime Operations, responsible for mitigating risks related to Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing, Fraud, Sanctions, and other financial crime risks (e.g., Anti-bribery & Corruption). You will oversee the performance of the team, ensuring efficient fraud processing, managing reports of suspicious behaviour, and driving the development and implementation of tools and strategies that meet Modulr’s regulatory obligations.

You’ll be responsible for enhancing operational processes and systems, ensuring fraud prevention activities are executed in line with company policies, risk appetite, and regulatory requirements. This includes managing third-party relationships (clients, financial institutions, and industry bodies), overseeing account blocking, fund recovery, and reimbursement processes. You’ll lead improvements that adapt to industry change, enhance outcomes, and drive automation with Product and Tech.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and maintaining operational processes, tools, and services to support business growth while maintaining high operational standards and improving customer experience.
  • Ensuring fraud operations are executed effectively, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory and risk management requirements.
  • Delivering a high-quality client experience through efficient, seamless processes and professional teams focused on service excellence.
  • Managing team performance through training, quality assurance, feedback frameworks, and systems assurance work.
  • Monitoring and maintaining key performance indicators (KPIs) and internal SLAs to drive performance, track progress, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Building team knowledge to provide advisory support to internal and external stakeholders without disrupting operational performance.
  • Driving a culture of continuous improvement by evolving policies and procedures to align with Modulr’s strategic growth, including product and geographical expansion.
  • Using data to identify areas for operational improvement, particularly around control outcomes and service quality, and working with Product teams to implement initiatives.
  • Reporting and contributing to internal governance forums.
  • This role offers an exciting opportunity to help shape and deliver a market-leading fraud prevention strategy that protects Modulr, its clients, and the broader payment ecosystem. Strong operational management, stakeholder engagement, and the ability to analyze and adapt to evolving complexities will be key to your success.

About you

  • You have experience working in a highly regulated environment, specifically within Financial Crime, with a strong focus on Fraud operations. Your background includes relevant qualifications or certifications that support your expertise in this space.
  • You bring demonstrable leadership experience, particularly in managing operational delivery teams, resource planning, and delivering high-quality output. You're confident in driving performance through others and managing service delivery using data and SLAs.
  • You have a strong understanding of the regulatory landscape and are skilled at assessing the adequacy and effectiveness of controls, ensuring compliance with regulatory obligations. You're analytical, with a keen ability to assess risk and define appropriate, effective controls—communicating those clearly to both internal stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Your communication and influencing skills allow you to work effectively across a range of stakeholders. You're open to challenge, but confident in your position when necessary, and comfortable presenting to senior management.
  • You’re highly organised and structured, able to manage immediate compliance or operational tasks while also delivering longer-term strategic projects. Your attention to detail is complemented by strong planning and forecasting skills that help you understand and meet capacity requirements.
  • You thrive in a fast-paced, ever-evolving environment, and enjoy the autonomy of leading your work independently. You embrace change and are always looking for ways to improve efficiency, particularly through automation and collaboration with Product and Technology teams.
  • You’re passionate about service and enjoy sharing knowledge to help your team grow and improve.
  • You’ve had experience in training, quality assurance, and implementing effective, risk-aware operational processes—defining these from the ground up, embedding tools and procedures, and ensuring delivery is aligned with wider business goals.
  • You’re inquisitive, proactive, and not afraid to roll up your sleeves to help the team achieve its goals.

What can Modulr offer you

You will be part of a cross disciplinary team(s), with co-workers located in Edinburgh, London, Amsterdam, and India. We’re a sociable, supportive team that will grow with you.

  • Share Options Incentive Scheme.
  • Company Bonus - the more successful we are together, the greater the reward.
  • Flexible benefits - £1000 to spend on a variety of benefits for you to choose from which suit your lifestyle and needs. Including Private medical insurance, gym membership, health checks etc.

  • 33 days holiday (including bank holidays) & your birthday off - choose which days you take off to relax and/or spend time with loved ones.
  • Learning Opportunities – on joining Modulr you will embark on our 2-day onboarding programme, called ModStart, to be equipped with the Modulr know-how and arm you with the tools you need to be successful from day 1!
