Job description

We’re on a mission to make money work for everyone.

We’re waving goodbye to the complicated and confusing ways of traditional banking.

After starting as a prepaid card, our product offering has grown a lot in the last 10 years in the UK. As well as personal and business bank accounts, we offer joint accounts, accounts for 16-17 year olds, a free kids account and credit cards in the UK, with more exciting things to come beyond. Our UK customers can also save, invest and combine their pensions with us.

With our hot coral cards and get-paid-early feature, combined with financial education on social media and our award winning customer service, we have a long history of creating magical moments for our customers!

We’re not about selling products - we want to solve problems and change lives through Monzo.

Our Financial Crime team

We’re a team of financial crime experts working together to manage and improve Monzo’s financial crime controls to help Monzo detect, deter, and prevent financial crime for all its customers across all product and delivery channels. The Customer Decisioning Risk team you’ll be working with focuses on our customer journeys at signup and during lifecycle, making sure that we make the right risk-based decisions about our customers through our risk assessments and screening solutions.

The squad that you’ll be part of works with dedicated financial crime engineers, data scientists and machine learning experts. This enables us to spot, assess and build detective and preventive controls quickly.

As an Associate Lead FinCrime Analyst, you’ll play a key role by

  • Supporting the development and optimisation of Monzo’s screening solutions for both customers and payments across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Developing strategic relationships with product/platform owners and key business stakeholders to provide expert Fincrime knowledge and define business and functional requirements within screening.
  • Being the lead point of contact for Monzo’s strategic screening suppliers, managing our third party relationships and identifying issues and opportunities in the servicing with both compliance and commercial risks in mind.
  • Working closely with data analytics and machine learning stakeholders to continue to develop best-in-class detection and prevention capabilities.
  • Maintaining a close relationship with our Fincrime operations teams, ensuring a high level of coordination and anticipation of impact when scoping change, working with operations to manage any changes in demand to reduce impact and defining process requirements for working screening alerts
  • Helping to define and interpret key measures and metrics on the performance of screening systems and assisting your senior manager in the preparation of reporting to relevant oversight committees and senior stakeholders across the business.
  • Proactively identifying and sharing emerging threats/trends, working across Fincrime teams.
  • Acting as a single point of contact for both internal and external stakeholders to provide SME knowledge on Monzo's screening controls
  • Safely scale Monzo's screening controls across new products and jurisdictions, understanding the nuance of different jurisdiction's regulatory expectations.

We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You have experience of working with both UK and EU financial crime regulations and payment infrastructures (e.g. SEPA, SWIFT, Bizum), and how they interact cross-border.
  • You have experience working with screening solutions and a broad awareness of other systems used to detect and prevent all types of Fincrime.
  • Have led, or provided significant support for, the implementation of improvements to screening or operations-heavy systems in similar organisations.
  • You have demonstrable experience of thinking strategically whilst also knowing when a tactical approach is required.
  • You have experience of working closely with product, data and engineering teams to define build requirements, and support from a fincrime risk perspective.
  • You are passionate about Fincrime, Monzo and putting customers first and working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and thrive when there’s ambiguity.
  • You're great at explaining processes and complex technical requirements to people.
  • You’re well organised and can work under pressure to tight deadlines.
  • You have a track record of demonstrating your strong decision making skills and ability to work to multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • You can be called upon at short notice and with limited context to take the lead on any number of issues or situations.

The application journey has 3 key steps

  • Introduction call with a member of the hiring team
  • Initial call with the Hiring Manager
  • 2-part final stage interview (Technical and Behavioural)

This process should take around 4-6 weeks - your schedule is really important to us, so we promise to be as flexible as possible.

What’s in it for you:

£71,400 - £90,000 + share options

This role can be based in our London office, but we're open to distributed working within the UK (with ad hoc meetings in London).

We offer flexible working hours and trust you to work enough hours to do your job well, at times that suit you and your team.

£1,000 learning budget each year to use on books, training courses and conferences.

We will set you up to work from home; all employees are given Macbooks and for fully remote workers we will provide extra support for your work-from-home setup.
