Financial Controller (Route to Finance Director) - Sheffield

Axon Moore is supporting a thriving manufacturing SME in Sheffield to recruit their Financial Controller.

This well-established, owner-managed business has a proud history and ambitious plans to develop further markets and revenue streams.

This is an exciting opportunity to join as Financial Controller, with a direct route to becoming Finance Director in the near future.

You will be supported by a highly experienced executive team and a capable finance function.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and develop the finance team, ensuring accurate and timely preparation of monthly management accounts and financial statements.
  • Manage annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes, working closely with department heads and operational teams.
  • Monitor cash flow, working capital, and cost control, and ensure effective treasury management.
  • Oversee statutory reporting, tax compliance (VAT, corporation tax, etc.), and liaise with auditors.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard company assets.
  • Partner with operations to provide financial insights on manufacturing costs, inventory, pricing, and margin analysis.
  • Support strategic planning and investment decisions with detailed financial modelling and scenario analysis.
  • Drive system and process improvements, including ERP enhancements and automation of financial processes.
  • Report financial performance and key KPIs to the Board and assist in strategic decision-making.
  • Further develop and refine the costing system and related information.
  • Manage stock ordering processes effectively.

Ideal candidate skills and experience:

  • Qualified accountant (ACCA/CIMA/ACA) with experience in a senior finance role within an SME.
  • Experience in the manufacturing sector is highly desirable.
  • Experience working within a privately owned, owner-managed, or family-owned business with a turnover between £20m and £50m is highly desirable.
