Financial Controller role for growing retail business near Llandudno

Hays Senior Finance are working with an established business near Llandudno who are looking to recruit a qualified Financial Controller. This long-standing company has had a presence in North Wales for many years and they continue to grow utilising their extensive customer base and reputation in the market. As Financial Controller you will report to the Finance Director and take the lead on financial governance, risk management, and compliance, while driving the accuracy and integrity of our financial reporting. This role is key to supporting strategic decision-making, enhancing financial performance, and ensuring robust controls across the business.

You will manage and mentor a high-performing finance team, overseeing everything from management accounts and audits to budgeting, forecasting, and regulatory compliance. You will also work closely with senior leadership to identify risks, streamline processes, and improve efficiency, playing a critical role in shaping our financial future.

Key duties will include:

  • Oversee financial reporting, ensuring compliance with UK GAAP & IFRS.
  • Lead month-end & year-end closing with accurate financial statements.
  • Implement financial controls & policies to safeguard company integrity.
  • Manage audits, liaising with external auditors & ensuring compliance.
  • Maintain balance sheet reconciliations for accuracy.
  • Develop and oversee budgeting, forecasting & financial planning.
  • Ensure compliance with tax, VAT & regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor & mitigate financial risks, protecting company assets.
  • Maintain compliance & internal controls as per policies.
  • Lead, mentor & develop a high-performing finance team.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability & continuous improvement.
  • Drive process improvements to enhance financial efficiency.

We are only looking for qualified accountants who live in the local area or within a commutable distance. The company is a flexible employer and will offer two days working from home as well as a 10% performance-related bonus.
